The Acker/Forkill House is the oldest house in Tarrytown with a storied history dating back to the mid 18th century with ties to the Revolutionary War and Washington Irving.
When the house was slated for demolition, community efforts spearheaded by the Tarrytown Historical Society and many concerned citizens, petitioned the Tarrytown Board of Trustees to hold a public hearing to determine if landmark status should be granted.
After several months of hearings and research presented by the TTHS, it became clear that the history and people associated with this property was unique.
